The Process

Collection & Storage

The tubing and sap collection process that is used by Shadow Hill utilizes gravity fed lines backed with a vacuum system. The vacuum system is contained within a pump house that extracts all of the sap from the trees. Once the sap enters into the pump house, it’s fed into a collection tank.

At this point, the collection tank that’s filled with the tree’s sap is gathered and brought to the sugar house so that it can begin to reduced down to the desired consistency of syrup. It is unloaded into a storage tank to keep until they can continue the maple syrup making process.

Processing

The near-syrup product is pulled out of the evaporator right before it reaches it’s perfect consistency and is put onto a gas stove.

A gas stove allows us to control the heat and temperature of the liquid to ensure that it does not burn. By using a hydrometer on top of the stove, we can be completely certain that the final product has reached it’s perfect boiling point in order to produce the best maple syrup we can.

Lastly… The syrup goes to bottling and the final product is delicious, homemade maple syrup!
